How to Calculate Exhaust Fan Size
1. Determine Total Airflow (CFM)
Layer chickens require a maximum ventilation rate of about 12 to 15 CFM per bird during peak summer heat to prevent heat stress.

2. Select Fan Size and Quantity
Standard agricultural exhaust fans are rated by their CFM output at a typical static pressure of 0.10 inches of water column (WG).
50-inch Cone Fan: Usually delivers around 30,000 CFM.
Calculation: 150,000 CFM ÷ 30,000 CFM/fan = 5 fans.
Setup: Install 5 units of 50-inch fans (or 4 units of high-performance 54-inch fans) to ensure proper tunnel ventilation.
3. Verify Air Exchange Rate
A well-designed poultry house needs a complete air exchange every 45 to 60 seconds. Ensure your total fan CFM matches or exceeds the total cubic volume of your specific house layout.
